Basketball Dribbling Tips – The Inside Scoop!

Basketball dribbling tips an integral part of you becoming the best player you can be!  After all, dribbling is such a critical part of the game.

It allows the ball handler to keep control of the ball instead of giving the defending team a chance at stealing.  There are some basic concepts of dribbling that everyone attempting to play the sport of basketball should know.  These basketball dribbling tips are not difficult to understand and very easy to practice.

Dribbling along with shooting are the two most important skills to learn on the way to playing basketball.  In this article I will discuss some important basketball dribbling tips and ways that they can be practiced to become more skilled.

The first of these basketball dribbling tips is to dribble with your fingers.  Many beginners attempt to dribble with the palms of their hands.  This is bad because eventually the player ends up slapping the ball and this provides no control.

Also, dribbling on the side of your body is very important.  If the basketball is dribbled in front of your body it gives the defense a very good opportunity to steal the ball.

Another very important basketball dribbling tip is to look up at the defenders; not at the ball.  If you look at the ball, you cannot see where you are going and may foul the defender or lose your balance.

When practicing dribbling with your fingers, push the ball down with force and let it return to your hand.  A common mistake that beginners make is meeting the ball with force as it is still returning to the hand.  This is wrong because it can make the player’s arm tired more quickly and also it will cut down on the amount of spring available from the fingers.

After dribbling from the fingers is mastered, practice dribbling the ball by the side of the body.  It is very important that the ball is dribbled with force so that it can return to the hand.  Otherwise, the player will have to lean over to dribble and likely lose their balance.

When this is mastered, practice the last of these basketball dribbling tips which is to look up at the defender.  The way to practice this is to begin dribbling the ball with the same amount of force so that the body knows that the ball will return to the hand without having to look at it.
